Sr. Youth Services Librarian

Where: Norfolk Public Library                   

Title: Sr. Youth Services Librarian    

Start Date: Sept. 13, 2010

                                                                                               

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: The candidate selected for this position will be responsible for the full range of children’s services at  the Norfolk Public Library, including: selecting all juvenile & YA materials; developing & carrying out children’s programming  from infants through middle school; providing reference service to youth, preparing publicity,  announcements, & displays; and conducting library orientation tours & programs.
TIME: This is a full-time, 35 hour per week  position, including 1 evening/ week; 1 Saturday/ month.

REQUIREMENTS:  The position of Sr. Youth Services Librarian requires a Masters Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited college or university, and previous experience working with children, plus previous library experience. Appointment as Sr. Youth Librarian requires 3 to 5 years of increasingly responsible public library experience as a children’s librarian, including supervisory experience.MLS/MLIS from ALA accredited college or university,and 1-2 years experience. For appiontment as Sr. Youth Librarian must have 3 to 5 years of increasingly responsible library experience as a children's librarian, including supervisory experience. Salary: Youth Librarian $34,962; Sr. Youth $41,514 + benefits package

SKILLS: Leadership ability and high degree of motivation & initiative. Pleasant personality and demonstrated ability to work effectively with others. Knowledge of children’s & YA literature. Computer skills required, including library automation system. Strong written and oral communication skills.
