Programs for Grades K-6
March/April 2015

NEW! Music and Movement
First Tuesday of every month (Apr. 7, May 5)
Grades K-1

Get ready to MOVE! Join us for this interactive, music-filled program where everyone can wiggle, shake, and play an instrument! Be silly and have FUN! No registration required. Caregivers MUST REMAIN IN THE LIBRARY. Preschool siblings are welcome. Sponsored by Coordinated Family & Community Engagement Program.

Book Detectives (Registration required)
Fourth Monday of every month
(Apr. 27)
Grades 2–3 with caregiver

This is a monthly parent-child book club for chapter book readers (usually in the range of 75-150 pages). We're focusing on mystery books!! (This club used to be known as Bookworms). We'll read and discuss the book at each meeting-- can YOU solve the case?

Each meeting, please bring a few ideas of mysteries you might like the group to read. We'll choose as a group and the person whose book is picked will be the next "host" in charge of bringing a snack for the group. Books may be picked up at the Circulation Desk the month before the meeting. Sponsored by Coordinated Family & Community Engagement Program.

April's books are The Ghost Who Haunted the Capitol by Steve Brezenoff AND The Chicken Squad: The First Misadventure by Doreen Cronin

Paws to Read (Registration required)
Second Thursday of every month (Apr. 9, May 14, Jun. 11)
Grades 2-6

What's better than reading? Reading to a DOG, of course! Children in grades 2-6 are invited to come and meet special therapy dogs once a month to practice their reading with a furry friend. Each child is given a specific 15-minute time slot for a "one on one" with their reading dog. Children must be able to read by themselves. This program is not for tutoring or becoming comfortable with dogs, rather, it is a chance for children to become more confident readers. Caregivers may remain in the building but are asked to remain outside the reading area. Sponsored by Therapy Dogs International. *Registration will open online one week prior to the program date. You will be notified of your time slot by email.

Kids' Crafternoon
Third and fourth Thursday of every month (Apr. 30)
Grades K-5 with caregiver

Get creative at the library! Each session we’ll use a different material to make all sorts of crafts! We'll also have coloring pages and some "free play" materials. Anything from paper to LEGO…see where your creativity takes you! Drop in and join us!
No meeting March 19, April 16 or 23.

Art Adventures
Friday, May 22 (no school for Norfolk students)
Grades K-4

Join us for Art Adventures, an interactive visual arts program that focuses on a particular artist or style. Children do not need to have any special artistic ability, just a desire to learn and be creative! In May, we will be exploring pottery!
This program is supported in part by a grant from the Norfolk Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

Youth programs are sponsored by the Friends of the Norfolk Public Library
